TAMPAKAN, SOUTH COTABATO — Analyn Tejada, an outstanding school paper adviser from Region 12, called on young journalists to practice truthfulness and bravery amid the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism during an interview held on October 18, 2025, at Tampakan National High School.
Tejada emphasized that AI has become a permanent part of journalism and should be approached responsibly. “AI is here. Dito na ‘yan. We can’t do anything about that,” she said, adding that journalists must verify AI-generated information. “Make sure in using AI, not all is correct. Do not rely on AI. Use our mind. Think deeply. Use AI as our source. But verbatimly, it’s a big no-no,” she added.
She explained that in their school publication, soft copies of articles are screened for plagiarism and AI-generated content, which result in automatic disqualification when detected.
She reminded student journalists to think critically before sharing information on social media and to ensure that their sources are validated. “Think before you click,” she said.
Tejada concluded by urging campus journalists to be “matapang and matapat” — brave and truthful — in pursuing stories and upholding ethical journalism.#
